What is the National Disability Insurance Scheme?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is transforming the way Australians with a disability obtain support services. It is a major national reform, jointly governed and funded through a partnership between the Commonwealth, the state and territory governments.

It intends to give people choice and control over the support they need, including the ability to manage their own funding if desired. It’s changing the way disability support services are delivered.

It can provide all people with disabilities with information and connections to services in their communities, such as doctors, supporting clubs, support groups, libraries and schools as well as information about what support is provided by each state and territory government. For many people, NDIS is the first time people will receive the disability support they need.

Plan-managed NDIS

Plan management is when a provider (otherwise known as plan managers) supports you to manage funding in your NDIS plan. Plan management providers can purchase support on behalf of NDIS participants from either registered or unregistered providers. A plan manager will receive funds from the NDIA and disburse funds on behalf of a participant to providers of other services received.

They can help you increase your financial and plan management skills, learn how to self-manage your plan, pay providers, increase your choice of providers and get NDIS plan budget reports and greater budget oversight.

At your planning meeting you can tell NDIS staff that you would like a plan manager to support you and they will include funding in your plan to pay for this manager.

Self-managed NDIS

Self-managed NDIS is when a participant (or their plan nominee) manages their plan funds. It gives participants the flexibility and choice to decide what supports they buy to pursue their plan goals. It lets them think creatively and control how they use their funds to best meet their personal needs.

It gives participants:

  • Choice in deciding what supports are purchased in line with what is included in the plan, who provides these supports and how they are delivered
  • Flexibility to use any provider that will best help them to pursue plan goals
  • Capacity to employ or contact staff directly – or have someone employ staff on your behalf
  • Ability to negotiate the costs of support
  • Control over and responsibility for NDIS funding so they can manage their own budget for the duration of their plan

Exercise for NDIS clients

Regular exercise has been proven to have a positive impact on mental health conditions, chronic health conditions and disabilities. Ensure the goals in your NDIS plan are aligned with what you want to achieve through regular exercise or exercise therapy. The NDIA encourages participants to improve health and wellbeing, engage in social or community participation and take steps to live a healthy lifestyle. Exercise physiology could be an option for you, especially if you live with chronic pain, arthritis, metabolic or neurological conditions. Most providers will work with you to customise movement based on your own abilities.

Easy Exercising support for NDIS clients

We are so pleased to welcome NDIS participants to Easy Exercising – NDIS at each of our clinics. The program supports people who have a mental health diagnosis, live within listed areas, have a severe and enduring disability related to their health, are an Australian resident and are aged 16-65.

Once your NDIS plan is approved and in place, you’ll most likely want to receive support right away. The process is straightforward – just let our Customer Experience Team know what support services you are interested in. The team can assist you to understand your plan and provide you with further information.

Everyone, whether using an NDIS self-managed or plan-managed approach, can start their journey with Easy Exercising.

We work with qualified physios and chiropractors to determine the exercises you personally need. Our machines then make sure that these exercises are correctly carried out, realigning your body into the correct position and then gently exercising those muscles and joints that have been incorrectly stressed or require healing.

We offer the support of a qualified practitioner who will always monitor, assist and offer suggestions and we make sure one-on-one support is provided where necessary.

We’d like to invite you to come along to a FREE trial session at your closest Easy Exercising clinic. This will help you see how the power-assisted machines work and also help you get a sense of the close-knit community we foster.
